"Folks in Texas want to know, okay, if Ken Paxton is going to vacate the AG seat, we want to make sure that we can turn the keys over to somebody who can handle an office with that kind of horsepower."
“So, last night I submitted my resignation to the President of the United States and the Attorney General from my position as Assistant Attorney General at the Office of Legal Policy at the Justice Department,” Reitz said. “But it’s not because I’m in retreat or moving on to something else that’s less significant for our country. I’m stepping out today, effective today, and announcing my candidacy as the next Texas Attorney General, to succeed Ken Paxton.”
Posobiec responded to the news: “This is huge. Walk me through this a little bit. There’s a bit of musical chairs going on here because Ken Paxton is the current Attorney of Texas, but he is expected to run a primary as the Senate candidate against John Cornyn.”
“That’s exactly right,” Reitz said. “Ken Paxton has been our great Attorney General for over a decade in Texas, and he’s decided to throw his hat in the ring to take on John Cornyn, representing 31 million Texans, which provides Texans with a unique opportunity that they haven’t had in over a decade to introduce or elect a new Texas AG.”
Reitz said Texans are looking for someone to build on Paxton’s legacy and pointed to his record. “I think when Texans are looking at who ought to carry on Ken Paxton’s legacy, it’s somebody who, like me, the president described as a true MAGA attorney and a warrior for the Constitution,” he said. “And the reason why he called me those things when he brought me to the Justice Department is because of the three years spent fighting alongside Ken Paxton as his deputy and the two years that I spent alongside Ted Cruz as his chief of staff.”
“Folks in Texas want to know, okay, if Ken Paxton is going to vacate the AG seat, we want to make sure that we can turn the keys over to somebody who can handle an office with that kind of horsepower,” he continued. “And I think when folks look at my background—the litigation, lawsuits, appeals, and investigations on all the issues Texans care about from election integrity, border security, transing of the kids, environmental overreach—I have battle scars on all of those issues.”
“When Texans are looking for somebody that they can trust, somebody that they can say ‘okay, this guy needs to be our next attorney general’ to keep pressing hard on the gas that Ken Paxton and the course he’s put us on, Aaron Reitz is the guy,” he said.
Reitz wrapped up the announcement by directing Texans to his campaign website: “If you wanna learn more about me, your viewers can go on aaronreitz.com.”
According to the Texas Tribune, "Reitz is the second candidate to declare for the March 2026 Republican primary to succeed Paxton, who is forgoing reelection to challenge GOP Sen. John Cornyn of Texas. State Sen. Mayes Middleton, a Republican from Galveston, entered the race for attorney general in April."
They continue: "A slew of Trump officials applauded Reitz’s service and cheered his return to Texas on X. FBI Director Kash Patel, who also rose to his perch through conservative legal circles, voiced tacit support for Reitz's attorney general bid Wednesday, calling him "a personal friend, great American, and a relentless advocate for law and order" before adding, "now it’s time to deliver on his next mission."
