State House Approves Legislation To Ban Fluoride From Public Water Systems, Heads To Governor’s Desk

The Florida House of Representatives approved legislation that would ban fluoride from public water systems.

SB 700, which passed by an 88-27 vote, moves to Gov. DeSantis’ desk.

Per Florida Politics:

The top legislative priority of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (SB 700) is now one signature from becoming law after an 88-27 vote in the House.

Some provisions were controversial — specifically, the proposed ban of psychedelic mushrooms and the representation of a plant product as milk or meat.

Critics also pushed back against provisions preempting water supply regulation to the state, banning localities from inserting additives, including fluoride.

“SB 700 has officially PASSED both the Florida Senate and House — and is now headed to the Governor’s desk! This historic legislation will end the addition of fluoride in Florida’s public water supplies — restoring the right of every individual to decide what goes into their body,” Stand for Health Freedom wrote.

“This is a win for informed consent, bodily autonomy, and the power of grassroots advocacy. Thank you to every citizen who spoke up, showed up, and stood for choice. Now we call on Governor DeSantis to sign SB 700 into law and make Florida a leader in health freedom!” it added.

“I am deeply disappointed by the Florida Legislature’s vote to ban fluoride from tap water, a decision that disregards the guidance of dentists, doctors, and medical experts. Ending fluoridation will have long-lasting impact on health—especially for our most vulnerable families,” Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, who vetoed a local fluoride ban, commented.

NBC 6 South Florida reports:

The Florida Senate passed the bill on April 16.

In Miami-Dade County, commissioners in early April voted to ban fluoride in drinking water but Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava later said that she would veto the plan.

The fluoride debate has spanned across the U.S.

Utah earlier this year became the first state to ban fluoride from drinking water.
