One of the Democratic Party’s leaders on Capitol Hill is putting nations around the world on notice, warning that the party will hold a grudge against nations that are too chummy with President Donald Trump.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) made the statement amid ongoing debate over Trump’s efforts to deport dangerous illegal immigrants.
As the New York Post reported:
Referencing El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele specifically, Raskin (D-Md.), 62, suggested that Dems should keep score of foreign leaders who brownnose Trump, 78, during his second term.
“Implicit in it should be the idea that if and when we come back to power — and we will — we are not going to look kindly upon people who … facilitated authoritarianism in our country,” Raskin told “Pod Save America” host Tommy Vietor in an episode that dropped Saturday.
Vietor had told Raskin that a Latin American policy expert suggested to him that Democrats should “threaten to take action against any foreign government that participates in the extraordinary rendition of American citizens.”
Trump has tapped into warpowers under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to rapidly deport alleged gangbangers outside of traditional deportation channels to El Salvador’s notorious Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) megaprison.
Of course, Raskin has been one of many Democrats who have appeared to be more passionate about the supposed rights of migrants living in the U.S. illegally than the American citizens victimized by those criminals:
Once again, they are on the wrong side of every issue.

CNN panel aghast to learn that even their own polling shows Donald Trump’s approval rating on immigration is positive.

It’s pretty funny that Democrats are now obsessed with how the President enforces our immigration laws. In 2020 Biden campaigned on NOT enforcing our immigration laws and that’s exactly what he did as President. pic.twitter.com/3C0OXpLnpq

Raskin’s remarks come as other House Democrats staged a photo op in El Salvador on behalf of a deported immigrant allegedly affiliated with the dangerous MS-13 gang.
As NewsNation reported:
Democratic Reps. Robert Garcia (Calif.), Maxwell Frost (Fla.), Yassamin Ansari (Ariz.) and Maxine Dexter (Ore.) said they were in El Salvador to advocate for Abrego Garcia’s release and put a spotlight on what they say is President Trump’s noncompliance with a Supreme Court order directing his administration to “facilitate” the Maryland man’s return. They also said they would urge the release of other detainees.
“While Donald Trump continues to defy the Supreme Court, Kilmar Abrego Garcia is being held illegally in El Salvador after being wrongfully deported,” Garcia said in a statement. “That is why we’re here – to remind the American people that kidnapping immigrants and deporting them without due process is not how we do things in America.”
“We are demanding the Trump Administration abide by the Supreme Court decision and give Kilmar and the other migrants mistakenly sent to El Salvador due process in the United States,” he added.
That trip was planned in the aftermath of a widely panned visit to the country by Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD):
