New Mexico Judge Who Allegedly Harbored Illegal Gang Member At His Home Gets Lifetime Ban

You might remember (former) Judge Joel Cano from a story we brought you a few days ago about his resignation.

The Democrat judge, who served on the bench in New Mexico for many years, recently resigned…shortly after federal agents arrested an illegal alien and alleged member of the violent Tren de Aragua gang, who was living on his property!

But wait…it gets even worse: the illegal gang members was also found in possession of multiple firearms at Cano’s home.

If you missed the scoop on that, here are the full details:

Now, we have an update to that story.

Judge Joel Cano has just been handed a lifetime ban from the New Mexico Supreme Court.

He will never sit on the bench again.

The ban doesn't even permit him to officiate weddings.

Fox News provided an update:

The former New Mexico judge who resigned last month after an alleged Tren de Aragua member was arrested at his home can never serve on a bench in the state again.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of New Mexico ordered that Joel Cano "can never hold a judicial office again, be a candidate for a judicial office, and cannot exercise any judicial authority in the state, including officiating at weddings," according to a spokesman for the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) told Fox News Digital.

The court was scheduled to hear oral arguments on disciplinary cases this Thursday, but the argument has been vacated now that the cases have been resolved.

Cano served in the Doña Ana County Magistrate Court in Las Cruces. His resignation letter, obtained by Fox News Digital, is dated March 3, but the AOC spokesman said it was not received by the Supreme Court and 3rd Judicial District Court until March 31.

The New York Post added:

A Democratic New Mexico judge who had an alleged Tren de Aragua gang member living in his home has been permanently banned from the bench by his colleagues, according to state Supreme Court documents.

Jose “Joel” Cano resigned in March after agents from the US Department of Homeland Security arrested suspected TdA gang member Cristhian Ortega-Lopez at Cano’s home in February.

The discipline handed down by the Supreme Court of New Mexico makes it so Cano “can never hold a judicial office again, be a candidate for a judicial office, and cannot exercise any judicial authority in the state.”

The ban even prohibits Cano from officiating at weddings in the state.
