Police arrested the grandson of a Texas county commissioner for a brutal knife attack that left the suspect’s grandfather deceased.
“Upon arrival, officers located two adult victims—a male and a female—both suffering from apparent stab wounds. The suspect, a family member of the victims, was still on scene and was immediately taken into custody without incident. Lewisville Fire Department personnel rendered aid and transported both victims to area hospitals,” the Lewisville Police Department stated in a press release.
“The female victim has been identified as Bobbie J. Mitchell, Denton County Commissioner for Precinct 3. Commissioner Mitchell currently serves the Lewisville area and is a prominent public servant. She is a former Lewisville City Council member and was the city’s first Black mayor, elected in 1993. She held the office until her resignation in January 2000 to run for her current county position,” it continued.
“Commissioner Mitchell is listed in stable condition and is being treated for stab wounds. Commissioner Mitchell’s husband, Fred Mitchell, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after 5:00 a.m. The suspect, Michell Blake Reinacher, the grandson of the victims, has been booked into the Lewisville jail and is presently charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The crime scene remains active as LPD crime scene investigators and detectives continue processing evidence and working to determine the circumstances that led to the attack,” it added.

Lewisville Chief of Police Brook Rollins said Monday afternoon that investigators have not yet determined a motive and weren’t able to confirm what occurred in the moments leading up to the stabbing.
Rollins said the call to 911 came from inside the family’s home and that investigators believed they recovered the murder weapon.
The chief said the investigation into the attack is ongoing.
“The crime scene remains active as LPD crime scene investigators and detectives continue processing evidence and working to determine the circumstances that led to the attack,” police said in the news release.
Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore said Monday afternoon that Bobbie Mitchell is expected to make a full recovery but that recovery will take some time.
“There is a long road of recovery. We are getting news that Commissioner Mitchell is recovering and we’re pleased on that, but we are saddened, deeply saddened at the loss of her husband, Fred Mitchell,” Gilmore said. “If anybody has ever been at a public event where Bobbie Mitchell has prayed over you, you know that she does an amazing job. Well, now it’s time for the community to give back. So any time that you have over the next couple of days or weeks to uplift Bobbie and the family, please do so.”
The Denton County website shows Commissioner Mitchell and her husband have two children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Michell Reinacher is Bobbie’s daughter’s son. Online searches show Reinacher attended Flower Mound High School and played football as a freshman for McMurry University in Abilene in 2019.

From the New York Post:
The Republican politician, 76, was rushed to the hospital in stable condition while her husband, 75, was pronounced dead about an hour after the attack, police said.
Their 23-year-old grandson, Mitchell Blake Reinacher, was found at the scene and has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Reinacher — one of the Mitchells’ nine grandchildren, according to her government website — is being held at the Lewisville jail.
Deputies were still on the scene processing evidence later Monday morning as they continued to probe the circumstances that led to the attack, the sheriff’s office said.
Bobbie J. Mitchell previously served on the Lewisville City Council before becoming the city’s first black mayor in 1993.
