Apple announced at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that its Wallet app can now store digital ID passports.
The tech giant will soon be able to hold a digital version of your passport.
Apple said the digital passport is “not a replacement for your physical passport.”
How long until it’s a requirement to have a digital passport or TSA restricts you from flying?
What else will require digital ID?
With iOS26, Apple is helping to bridge the gap between Americans and the technocratic surveillance state.

Per Apple:
Digital ID offers a secure and private new way for users to store and present their ID information using their iPhone and Apple Watch. Users can seamlessly create and add a Digital ID to Apple Wallet using a U.S. passport.
With REAL ID implementation in effect, at launch, Digital ID provides another way for users to conveniently and securely present an ID in person at select TSA checkpoints for identity verification purposes during domestic travel. Digital ID is not a replacement for a physical passport, and cannot be used for international travel and border crossing in lieu of a U.S. passport. Like all IDs in Apple Wallet, this new solution takes advantage of the privacy and security features already built into iPhone and Apple Watch.
Additionally, Verify with Wallet on the Web enables users to seamlessly and securely present their eligible driver’s license or state ID in Wallet to websites for age and identity verification, starting with Chime, Turo, Uber Eats, and U.S. Bank, as well as the Arizona MVD, Georgia DDS, and Maryland MVA.

“As Apple recently announced, passengers traveling domestically will be able to create and add a Digital ID to Apple Wallet using their U.S. Passport and present it at select TSA checkpoints in the U.S.,” a TSA spokesperson told Fox Business.
“Travelers who may not have a state-issued REAL ID will be able to present their Digital ID using their iPhone and Apple Watch for REAL ID-compliant passage through the TSA airport checkpoint,” the spokesperson added.
Digital ID may be voluntary now, but how long until you need all of your information stored digitally?
Will your digital ID be linked to your health records, party affiliation, social media accounts, banking information, etc.?

USA TODAY reports:
To be clear, that means even travelers who have a digital passport in their Apple Wallet will still need to present the physical document at customs and border checkpoints when traveling internationally. However, the Transportation Security Administration confirmed that a digital passport will be accepted by TSA officers at security screenings for domestic travel.
When the REAL ID law took effect in May, many travelers had to double-check whether they had compliant driver’s licenses or would need an alternative form of ID, like a passport, to board domestic flights.
Apple said it is also refreshing digital boarding passes and improving the travel-centric features of its Wallet app.
